the online live music gig guide for birmingham & the midlands

Lazy J

Lazy J are a four piece band from the Midlands. Their music is a clear and
defined fusion of funk, blues and rock that draws influence from a range of
artists such as Led Zeppelin, George Clinton, Jane’s Addiction, James Brown
and Reef.
Having played together for many years, founder members Dave Cotterill
(guitars) and Marc Plant (vocals) had worked hard to build a solid reputation on
the Midlands music scene for polished live performances and inventive song
writing. The addition of Rich Goodall (bass) and Phil Peters (drums) in early
2006 acted as a catalyst for what has become the band’s most successful and
productive period to date.
Kerrang FM have played an active part in creating a surge of interest in Lazy J
by giving their songs regular airplay and broadcasting interviews with the
foursome, as well as voting them ‘Unsigned band of the year’.
In summer 2006, tracks from the band’s new EP Inner City Funktion received
critical acclaim from one of the members of Ocean Colour Scene,
demonstrating that Lazy J’s songwriting balances artistic creativity with
commercial success.
Outside the studio, Lazy J are constantly playing and gigging. The group has
performed headline sets at Camden Underworld, Birmingham Academy, JB’s
Dudley and have also performed at Sound Leicester Square (London),
Birmingham Barfly and Rockingham Race Arena.
With a host of new material ready to be recorded and an ever increasing
interest in the band, Lazy J hope to complete their first full length album in the
near future, as well as continuing to excite audiences with their own brand of
fresh, flowing funk.
